We are moving to Ramona within a year. I have a quick question, what is the crime like in Ramona? I thought it wasn't too high but some websites are saying it is high. These are general websites about crime stats.

Our relatives are worried because it's so close to the Mexican border, can anyone give me any insight?

Looking at the map, crime rate might seem to be higher in Ramona than in Torrington. But if you look lower down at the statistics, they're almost even, and in some ways Ramona is safer than Torrington.

Most of America hears only the most dramatic negative news about the border issues, because drama and negativity sells. If you have nothing to do with the drug trade, you don't need to worry about being closer to the border.

Thank you I appreciate your email. In every parts of the country people think it's a big deal to be by the border. My sister in law is from SoCal and she recommends Ramona.

'Close to the border' is a relative term. Within the confines of San Diego county, Ramona is pretty well north of the border. It's not like you can see TJ from your back porch like you could in, say, Chula Vista or similar areas.

What everyone is saying is true.

Ramona is not really close to the border and it is very safe.

It's kind of country compared to other cities in San Diego County.

Depending on where in Ramona you live, I would be more concerned about protecting your home from wild fire than crime.

Also, the 67 can be a dangerous road.

Bear in mind that "safe" is a subjective term. Apart from the statistics about types of crime (and Ramona is average) as pointed out in another post here, feeling secure is another thing. California gun laws have effectively created a lifestyle where law abiding citizens can only keep a gun in their home and there are additional laws about that. Protecting yourself on the road is another story. Remember when they said "If guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns"?

That is effectively what the laws here have created in my view.

It is probably 40 miles north of the border. My folks live there near Mt Woodson and it is great. The homes in town are not so great. The estates are nice too. As for crime I haven't heard much about it.
