I currently use AT&T's DSL service for my internet connection in San Diego. I subscribed over 4 years ago when it was $10/month and now the price has increased to about $20/month. It's inexpensive, but the speed and reliability of the connection isn't as good as cable modem service. I only use the service 4 months out of the year, but still pay for the 8 months of the year I am not in town because I don't see any option on the website for DSL only customers to put the service on a vacation hold. I have Cox high speed internet at my primary residence and am very happy with it. It's $55/month but since there are family members at my primary residence using it daily when I am away, I never inquired or researched a vacation hold option.

Which high speed internet company in San Diego is both reasonably priced and offers service holds for seasonal residents?

I've heard DSL Extreme advertised on the radio: DSL, ADSL2+, T1 & Ethernet for your Home or Business - DSL Extreme

Internet, like cable TV are subject to the region of San Diego you are living in. Where are you located that you are looking for short term?

Carlsbad. It seems like Cox and Time Warner are the big companies in my area. I don't want any long term contracts, just a company that has good speed and is easy to deal with as a seasonal resident.

Happs,

To my knowledge I have never heard of a "contract" for cable or modem service. Yes you sign an agreement, but its not like cell phone contract where you are purcahsing a product at a discount and trading it off with a service contract.

AFAIK you sign up and when you are done just hand the stuff back in or mail the hardware back to them via UPS.

Thanks for the info, but I think putting the service on hold might better than starting, stopping it each time and then mailing back equipment.

I find that hands down............cable internet is the best.............bulletproof and very reliable. I have had Cox cable internet many times over the years and I love it. Dsl.......much more buggy and unreliable........of course it is................you are running it over telephone lines.
