My company is consolidating it's branches back to San Dimas Ca and I am transferring as a result. Planning the move for mid February '10. We would like to rent a house for a year or 2 while we get familiar with the area and settle in. It's been surprisingly difficult to find reliable housing rental information online regarding IE cities and neighborhoods that are within reasonable commute distance from San Dimas and are favorable areas to live in. Reading the posts here have been really helpful in narrowing our search to specific cities that may be suit us. We're focusing on Rancho Cucamonga, Chino Hills and Corona. Looking for a smaller 2-3 bedroom house with a garage that can accommodate 2 adults, our 2 small dachshunds and saltwater aquariums. Our price range is flexible but we'd rather not exceed 1500 monthly in hopes of offsetting commute expenses.
We've been pretty open-minded in our searches and applied to a couple of apparently flakey online rental management companies that produced results too far out or in neighborhoods that were questionable. We have 20+ years of housing references and full cash deposits.
We are planning to visit the area mid January to find a home but are beginning to worry due to the lack of results in our online searches to date.
My questions are: Have we narrowed the search to areas where it may be difficult to find a house rental? Is the rental market really competitive in the IE lately? Any advice or recommendation from the local perspective will be hugely appreciated. Thanks

I'd try to stick with Chino Hills or Cucamonga due to the commute. I can't help you with the rental questions, sorry.

What about San Dimas itself?

What CA4Now said.
San Dimas is a nice town. So is La Verne.

Just stick to as close to work as you can. That's the best advice I can offer to anyone moving to Southern Cal.

Ditto, ditto, ditto. The areas you mentioned are great, but why not look at San Dimas? It's a great city and your commute would be super short. Glendora would be a great city as well.

Seattle is so beautiful, leafy and green. The Inland Empire is so desert-like. You might want to stay a little west of the IE.

But parts of the IE are so overdeveloped now that you can't even see the desert anymore. I guess what I'm saying is that if you're from a place like Seattle, you might want to avoid those areas. Visit first.

And I guess I'm saying that there are places you'd want to avoid in Seattle as well. Or in any other city, or place. Every place is beautiful in it's own way!
