118 miles to the North is the Mitchell Caverns State Natural Preserve, CA. That's all I have to offer.

It's mostly a hiker and rock climber's paradise.

Did you look at Joshua's web site?

I enjoyed J Tree years ago. This was just before lightning ignited a huge storm, then after. I really liked waking up early to get to Key Point, and watch the sunrise. You should either sleep in a site inside or immediately outside and know the roads that are open all night long to get hither and yon. After the fire, it was surreal, and what made it even more attractive was that coyotes were coming up to the car, begging for food. Nope, didn't offer any. The Tank Rocks are really neat too and you can hike around. Be ready for really blistering heat, the stuff that will dry your socks on your feet and the moisture out of your breath. Gallons will do well, in a cooler packed with ice. Do you really want to drink warm water? I seem to recall road runners and rabbits as well. And if your really good and catch things just right, you may pass landmarks you may have seen in car commercials (after you've been there and seen them, you can make out the landscape). Have fun, good luck.

Awesome! & the weather was perfect, It ended up being windy (not too bad) so that helped!
Kept hearing quails & the wind, it was so peaceful, and yea definitely a hiking, flower/nature watching, rock climbing adventure, although the next time I want to campout and watch the stars...
So here are two pics, from a crappy cell phone, but am definitely coming back
