And right now the Riverside station is just a little further up the 215 - it's right Downtown on Vine, and has a parking lot where you can leave your car. I don't take it much anymore, but in the past I took it into LA quite a bit and it really is faster than driving - and if your destination is on a subway line in LA, you can transfer easily. And of course they have trains that go into Orange County as well.
Perris probably won't open up until late 2012 or early 2013 - http://www.cityofperris.org/Perris-Valley-Line.pdf (broken link)

This is assuming there aren't anymore delays. The Perris Line was supposed to open up this year.

There was an article in the Temecula Valley Business Journal about three years ago that said Temecula would get a Metrolink station in 2010. I'd be surprised to see one before 2020.

I could use the Corona station, but connecting bus service is limited. It doesn't service all trains, and no service at all on weekends.

Wouldn't it be more efficient if the two agencies were merged? What's the point in having two county run transit agencies?

It's a big county, and there really is a difference in the southern and northern parts. If you live in North County you probably spend very little time downtown, and vice versa.

Yes, San Diego county is very large. I lived in North San Diego County ( Poway ) for 18 years until we moved up to Murrieta in 2002. There are a lot of people that go to downtown San Diego but not very many go south of there. There is a commuter bus from Poway to San Diego.

You can always park at Pechanga, take the bus to Old Town, and then take a City Bus (30 or 150) or Blue Line Trolley downtown from there.

You won't be able to do that. You can only take the bus from Pechanga if you arrived on it. Like the rest of the casinos, they bus people in to play at their casino.
