Well I guess thats one thing I shouldve asked. I forgot how bad traffic is there. What is the best/worst directions of travel and at what time?

There are tons of closer areas to Ft Sam than thousand oaks. Northwood is one, Terrell Heights, Windcrest, Bel Meade, Oakwell Farms. Some maybe over 200K though. Ft. Sam is smack dab in one of the ritzier parts of town, it's not far from the San Antonio Country Club or the tri-cities of Alamo Heights, Olmos Park and Terrell Hills.

I am as well relocating to Fort Sam and would appreciate any advise as to selecting a neighborhood that is safe, best value and not a pain to commute. As a retired firefighter I can appreciate any advise from a local PD officer ( Mr. V) who has responded and knows the neighborhoods inside and out.

The thousand oaks area is not bad, but traffic can be a bear though. for a kind of quiet area near there i would look at Alamo Heights. used to be kind of ritzy, now you can find reasonably priced homes. close to ft. sam-good schools, etc...if you here about a family wanting to move out in the semi country about 30 minutes from ft. sam please refer. 274,9k but negotiable. Thanks for serving and good luck to you. God bless you and your family...

I still think your best bet would be Northridge/Terrell Heights area within NEISD. I don't think you'll find much anything under 200k in the AHISD. Same goes for Oakwell Farms. traffic is bad leaving Fort Sam on Harry Wurzbach anytime after 3:30 in the afternoon.

Default Housing near Ft. Sam

[quote=phoenixzro;11125693]Sure, any advice is much appreciated. I have a wife and 4 month old child so I would like to hear from you. Im looking at thousand oaks area in North SA but am wondering is there any place closer to Sam that is safe with decent housing. A quiet suburb may be nice.

Thosaund Oaks is nice, but traffic can be a bear. I would consider the Alamo Heights area.
