Last Saturday I stumbled across the location below, what appears to have been a small Japanese-like garden between North 1604 and Proton Road (see first map). I had seen some of it before but didn't realize how developed the small area was, especially towards Proton Road.

Does anyone know the history behind this place?

These are thumbnails, click on any of them for the full-sized photo. The first five are from MS Live Search, the rest I took on Saturday.

That is really interesting! I would like to know more about that, and would love to see that developed as a park for the local businesses - somewhere to go eat your lunch from Jason's deli! Wow, great find!

Sorry I don't know what it was but that is so cool! I love finding lost areas like this. Too bad they are most likely going to tear it all up and plop a strip center there. It'd be nice if someone fixed itup and kept it as a little park area.

Time for everyone to write their city council person and propose the city buy it and fix it up and let it be our newest park!

It is ironic that such a nice looking place has been abandoned. I'm sure skaters even love it more.

Nice find.

I don't know jack about building and construction, but those look like some pretty heavy duty supports. It looks like someone was planning to build something there. Like maybe a restaurant or small office building. Then, for some reason the construction stopped. Then someone decided to put up some benches and make it into a park.

According to the Bexar County Appraisal District, this site is owned by the Drury Inn. Maybe they are hoping to develop it for the Hotel next door.

You can see this structure from the 1604 access road and I've been seeing it for years wondering what it was. I never knew it was so extensive. Thanks for posting these picts.

It looks like it is directly adjacent to the Drury Inn & Suites (under construction) and the current Drury Inn (both can be seen in a few of the pictures.
