This was the nail in the coffin:

I read that the national headquarters eventually made good on the money, but the location closed a few days later. Too bad, because I liked the place.

And has anyone seen the tent city in front of the new Chick-fil-a at Evans and 281? What people will do for free food!
I thought it was the release of a new Star Wars movie 35 months too early.

In the news...it's been said that after 66 years The Malt House over on Zarzamora is closing for three months for renovation. I've eaten there and I can tell you that it's going to take at least that long just to kill the roaches.

It's funny how places that "close for renovation" often never reopen. 3 months is a long time to go without revenue and plenty of time for people to make a habit of going elsewhere.

If the Malthouse closes I think it will be a bigger deal than "just a place on the westside closing." It's got this type of superhero legacy for many on the westside. I remember going to Una Noche de la Gloria (I highly reccomend this event) in 2010 and they were celebrating the area with documentaries and the Malthouse played a very large part in it, with a kid riding his bike to get to the Matlhouse because that was just what was done. I really can't even think of another restaurant to compare it to, but it would be a hude deal. Not to mention outside of taquerias there aren't many food options in that specific area. And I'd be kind of bummed because I never did eat there with the 5ish years of work I did in the neighborhood.

Ahh. Found the movie: https://vimeo.com/9840737 (side note there are a lot of great lil clips from them).

You missed the experience of a lifetime. Getting fried chicken that didn't exactly smell like fried chicken. The roaches that appeared out of nowhere while you were eating. Yep, it's a west side icon allright.

So where did you hear this one? I think they are a chain so will have to look them up. If you go IH35 South and get off at the exit for the Forum you can see Pasha Mediterrain Grill. However it looks like there is also a place in the same plaza (built on the site of the former Ruben's) a place called Sabor.I think its latin or mexican food but couldn't get a good look at it.

I don't know if this has been reported but here goes. Burger Time on Bandera Rd (great burgers & fries and always a 100% on their inspections) has been forced to close down because the land owners thought a Taco Bell would be more appropriate at that location. They do have a GoFundMe page.

What's with the sudden surge of these Taco Bells?? I noticed they have gone away from the duel KFC/Taco Bell thing which I was never a fan of anyway.
