Ok this is for my wife, who's already in San Antonio. One of her job's perks is free membership at Spectrum? Is this a decent gym? My wife is into working out and likes taking classes too. What gym are you a member of? Suggestions?

That's a good gym. Lifetime fitness is also good. I belong to Golds gym since its the closest. They all have websites to check them out. Lifetime is a bit far away from you though I think.

Location-wise, somewhere midpoint between Alamo Ranch and the airport would be ideal.

Spectrum is an awesome gym, as long as you are not allowing them to deduct your membership fees out of your checking account. You play holy hell trying to get them to stop deducting money when you've given them 90 days' notice that you are quitting. We ended up having to close our checking account and opening a new one, and have never gotten a penny of the $300 or so that they owe us. I guess if it's free, you won't have any problems!

I was with Spectrum for several years and was very happy with it! I only stopped my membership because I will be moving. They have a variety of classes and have recently remodeled some of their gyms. I also like it because you don't have to sign a long-term contract and you have to give 90 days notice if you ever want to stop your membership.

Be careful of Bally's...I have heard horror stories about their contract!!

Both Spectrum (Rogers Ranch) and LIfetime are very nice facilities. I believe Lifetime is opening a second location at I-10 and 1604 which would be more convenient for you, but still not nearly as many locations as Spectrum. A while back I heard Lifetime was going into the Rim, not sure if this is still a go though.

Both Spectrum and Gold's have nice facilities. I have belonged to both. I was at Spectrum for two years, went to the Prue Road location, and when the Fiesta Trails Gold's opened, I swear that the ENTIRE membership moved to Gold's (myself included) because it was a third the price, and much much nicer. I have no idea what happened to Spectrum at Prue, but it was really run down inside, comparatively. If your company is paying, you can't lose. If YOU are paying, go to Gold's because Spectrum is not worth the tons of extra money it will cost you.

Lifetime is building at The Rim. Pre-memberships are already being offered.
