Is it possible to live in San Antonio on $1500 a month. I have SSDI and get $1500 minus my medicare Insurance Part B. I'm also a Vietnam veteran so a VA hospital close would be nice. Just a small apartment would do and I want to know which would be best San Antonio or El Paso.

I hate snow and cold weather as it hurt me too much anymore. One reason for leaving Ohio. I don't need much to live on so fancy is not something I look for. I also take care of my brother who has some health problems but that is cost of food only.

There is a large VA hospital here and there are a lot of apartments around it. I'm not sure of the cost, but I would imagine they would fit in your budget because San Antonio isn't really that expensive and that area is relatively safe. There is also plenty of bus service over there if you don't have transportation. I'd recommend against looking for the super cheap apartments though because the violence and crime levels tend to go way up and the criminals here don't respect age or anything else.
It's definitely warm too. I don't like it at all, but I'm sure you will. It's been in the 70's to near 80 lately and very sunny, but the nights have been in the 30's-50's. It's definitely warmer than Ohio though

When I first started teaching in San Antonio (a little over 10 years ago) I was living on about that much per month. I don't know what apartment prices are currently, but if you don't have a lot of debt, I'd imagine it's still very possible.

Yes, you can live on $1500 a month in SA. We have a big VA Hospital on Babcock/Wurzbach. You can find some inexpensive apartments on Fredericksburg Rd or Babcock with easy access to bus transportation. Also, you can talk to a social worker at the hospital and they may be able to help get you situated.

Here is a good website to help you explore...it compares the cost of living in the city you are located to a city you might want to consider.

This should help you find if you should be better off or worse off financially in the new city.

For example you said Ohio...had no idea what city so plugged in AKron OH to SA TX.
Your standard of living would improve because SA is 9.4% cheaper to live than Akron is.

Plug in the places you might want to consider for your search to get an idea and best of luck in find your your new, warmer home!!!
