Was this something that changed in the past year? I know I needed it last year.

I went to HEB today and had my insurance and license ready (because they ALWAYS ask for it). I was even afraid they wouldnt renew it because my car is in my wife's name (and hers in mine for some odd reason).

I tried to hand the girl my license and insurance and she says "oh no we dont need that stuff".

Is that something that is now on file with your registration? Just found it odd that all I had to do was pay and split with the new sticker.

She was wrong or just didn't want to bother. They are required to see your I.D. and proof insurance.

I renewed my reg online, and they ask didn't for proof of insurance. When you do the yearly "safety" inspection they check insurance

They can now look your insurance information up electronically. They know if you do in fact have a policy and if it's in force.

Every HEB that I have ever used has a small sign next to the counter window saying that you will need your I.D. and proof of insurance to renew your registration. Now the last time I renewed was last December so maybe the requirement has been dropped since then.

They require it when you renew registration at the tax assessor collector office. I did it about a month ago at the downtown location and they required the proof of insurance. I carry it with me every time now after the time I waited in a 20 minute line and was turned away at the window because I didn't have it. Learned my lesson! The webpage for motor vehicle registrations claims proof of insurance is still required. http://www.bexar.org/tax/MVRegistration.html

I always have it in my wallet so it isnt a big deal either way but I remember when liability insurance became a must and was suddenly the buzzword when you wanted to anything vehicle related. Surprised me when she said "we dont need that"

By not checking for proof of insurance, I wonder if HEB would be liable in an event where the person whose registration they processed had a major accident?

The employee who failed to check should be fired as this could have potentially serious repercussions. It's always amazing how more and more workers these days are disengaged and simply don't care....

HEB Responsible????? Fired?????? Don't care?????

Not everything is an indictment of "society these days" and Im glad I didnt push it at HEB. If the girl was wrong I would like her to be corrected not UNEMPLOYED.

Sure am glad I didnt give the location. I can smell the torches from here. Put your pitchforks away.
