I saw a story about a new windshield sticker and was wondering about the costs and procedures of vehicle registration in the S.A. area?

pretty simple to do. Go to the website for Bexar county tax district and look for motor vehicles. Pretty cheap compared to some other states. You need your title and proof of insurance and proof you reside in Bexar county and prob. some form you can download of the web site.

after you get the registration then you take your car to be inspected. There are alot of stations around to be inspected at. Look for the Texas shaped sign and they do inspections. Those places check your brakes, lights, horn that type of thing. And they really do look at those things. I remember when I moved to Nebraska for awhile cause of my hubbys job I remember thinking that inpection there was a joke, just check to make sure vin numbers matched and that was it at the DMV. The inspection is about $15. Registration depends on the value of your car.
Hope this helps some

Registration and inspection are two separate things.

Default Vehicle Registration

I am wondering if there is a certain percentage of your vehicles worth that is due when registering your vehicle? I recently bought a new car and it is not due for re-registration until 2012, However, I would like to be prepared for next year if what I hear is correct. I have been told a fee of 6.25% of your car's worth as well as inspection, title fee and actual registration fee are all due at time of registration. This will be approx $2345. Is this correct?

Did you purchase the vehicle from a car lot or a private individual,..and is the vehicle "new" to you or the years "new" vehicle?

If you purchased the car from a dealer and received plates in your name, then the sales tax has been paid. The "fee" is actually a one-time sales tax, not something payable annually.

There is no vehicle excise tax in TX, unlike other states. Annual registration runs from about $54-$64.

If you purchased the vehicle and did not pay TX sales/use tax at the time of purchase, then you will have to pay 6.25% sales tax on the car's value at the time of title transfer.

The registration stickers on new cars are valid for 2 years from the time they were registered by the dealer.
