I like Isis but I think she's a tad overrated. I think she got very "lucky" sliding in the main anchor seat.

It's always strange how news stations will hire fresh, young beautiful women in their late 20s, but yet "keep" older male anchors (sometimes who are 20 years older than their younger female counterparts).

It just strikes me as odd, but that's how television news is sometimes.

They do it because that's what viewers say they want.

Stations do focus groups a few times a year, show them video clips from newscasts and gather the group's opinions about each anchor. It's not sinister or overly personal, the stations are just trying to zero in on whatever gets people to watch their newscasts. The fact that the pairing you describe is so popular is a sign that focus groups are telling management they like young, attractive women paired with experienced male anchors. Clearly, the males who express an opinion on City-Data like the young, attractive women.

HD might be making that trend more obvious.

That's the nature of business - anyone can be canned at any moment. However, Vaughn was under contract through January, so he walked away with a check for his remaining 5+ months' pay (which would definitely amount to 6 figures.) He won't exactly be going hungry.

The "little people" don't have any golden parachute - they are very lucky to even get severance pay if it was a lay-off situation; otherwise, they leave with a small check for whatever portion of the pay period they actually worked plus any of their remaining accrued vacation time, and hat in hand. In a firing situation, the person is not even allowed to go clean out their desk; they are informed of their termination, de-keyed and escorted out like a criminal, then their manager packs up whatever is deemed to be their personal property into a box which is mailed to them.

Just saw the new anchor on Kens5. I really hope he gets better because it was a little boring to listen to him talk.

Mr. Goldblatt was stumbling over his words yesterday when Deborah Knapp threw it to him for the West Nile Virus story. Deborah Knapp looked great btw, last night. Love the new hairstyle.

He seems like he is still a little nervous, trying to find his balance and settle in. I am waiting to see how he does in the anchor chair, as that is what he was hired for.

I noticed Deborah's hair yesterday, too - I agree - she really looked fantastic! Seems she's one of those ladies who ages very well - in fact she seems to get more and more stunning with every passing year. (And I don't think she's had any "work" done, at least nothing major like a face lift.)

Well I've been watching Jeff Goldblatt anchoring for the last two days. I agree - he's talking way too slowly. And it seems like he reads every story in the same mild tone of voice - whether the story is tragic, funny, serious or oddball. There is not enough variation in his delivery, and he takes too long to get through the story, so it gets kind of boring to listen to. He needs to pick up the pace.
