Please give me a few of your favorites. Honestly, since living here for over a year, I haven't found a Mexican restaurant that I would go to again other than Paloma Blanca.
And yes I should know the difference, since I grew up on Mexican food.

Agreed, some people need to move back to Houston.

It is so funny that this whole "chain" thing has been brought up by people who live in a city that sports the most chain restaurants out of any city I have ever been to...and they're not even local ones. Good lord, you guys are fickle.

My favorite Mexican restaurants are usually the small, hole-in-the-wall ones. I've been open to trying the dozens of Mexican restaurants around me and most of them are nasty, so I just stick to a few favorites. After regularly reading Kitchen Cops on the WOAI website and my sister and her boyfriend getting terrible food poisoning at Taco Palenque after it was recommended in the Express News, I try to be more careful about just eating anywhere. I'm kind of different anyway. I don't think Pizza Hut is the best chain pizza restaurant and I hate China Sea.

I'm sorry, I just don't see how a chain can compete with some of the mom n pops who are making the food themselves. Call me cynical. I'm wondering if you have any stock in this place the way you're feverishly defending it. I'm not saying that it sucks, I'm saying that to say there aren't any good tex mex places here and to say that this place is better than all places here in town is pretty naive. How does the OP know? Has the OP been to ALL of the tex mex places in town? Have you? It might very well be a good place....I don't know but I do have my favorite places that aren't in magazines that are amazing in their own right. Don't get me wrong on the chain, some of the best enchiladas I've have been from a chain - Blanco Cafe.

Me too! Actually used to date one of the original waitresses there.

My favorite is Jacala on west ave. They have been in business since the 50's , I believe.....always good and always great service.
