I think that the city has been slipping backwards in some key ways. In 2004 there was a sense of up-and-coming excitement, with the Spurs' success, and ATT, etc. We've since lost that. For instance, what's happening with the "movie studio" that was slated to be built near Sea World? (exactly...)
^Umm...it's still under construction? They just completed a soundstage.

If the movie studio is "under construction" like the Broadway condominiums had/have been, I'm not sure that's a sign of progress.

It's under construction like the train to Austin.

SA and Austin will have basically grown into a continuous area. Dallas / Ft Worth or LA is what it will look like.

In ten years? I don’t think so. More like in 30 if Austin wants to associate itself with San Antonio.

Austin has its hands full trying not to associate itself with Round Rock, Georgetown, and the many more suburbs that surround the smaller city. In some ways such as having a green vision, San Antonio is more of a kindred spirit.

Austin is growing pretty rapidly to the south - Kyle and Buda are nearly continuous with south Austin in my opinion. Add to that growth from New Braunfels and San Marcos + whatever they build to the northeast (granted that's not the direction SA is booming towards at the moment) and you've got continuous suburban development between the two cities. It'll grow outward from there.
