Tell me about "The Pocket"...I'm looking at rental properties and finding a few in what is reffered to as "The Pocket" and a few others straight east of there on the other side of I-5. I think the streets are around Pollock? Florin?
I've heard its horrible and I've heard its nice. Maybe it's horribly nice? Feedback on either or both locations would be nice.

Default Not so Bad

I lived in the Pocket (Riverlake area) for about a year. I thought it was clean, quiet, and I could go running or walk my dog as late as I wanted without worrying. The apartment complex where I lived, Landing at Riverlake, was clean and well managed and my neighbors were all polite and respectful. The rents in that area are a little high but not exhorbitant, and there are plenty of parks and trails for biking, running, etc. The levies are also close which offer more trails for walking, running, biking if you're active. I moved to Tahoe Park to be closer to work, but other than a long commute to Rancho, no complaints about the Pocket. If you're commuting to RC, Folsom, Roseville, etc., think about increased commute times before you make the move.

I like the pocket area. I don't like it to raise kids though. But that's my opinion. It's too close to the "yuck" on the other side of the tracks for my tastes.

But I like the pocket area. It's nice and unique in it's own way. Great people and community.

The Pocket is a wonderful neighborhood... I live there now. Good shopping centers, very quiet (unless, like me, you live across the street from one of the shopping centers!), pretty safe.

However, note that the eastern boundary of Pocket-Greenhaven area is I-5. Straight east on the other side of I-5 is Meadowview, and that is not a neighborhood you want to be in (although, there is some slightly nice/"meh" stuff close to the freeway on that side, if you do your homework on a street-by-street basis). The further east you go, the worse it gets... ideally, you want to rent in the area that is between the I-5 and the river.
