We're torn between the two places. My husband works in Folsom, but we've been living in Davis for almost 2 years, and love the small town feel and easy access to bike trails (not only for recreation, but for too and fro schools, library, etc). Motorist are very mindful of bikers and I feel safe biking with my precious "cargo" in the trailer. We have two young children, and I know both Folsom and Davis have great schools, but it's just that we've been here and created a small network that I'm comfortable with (I'm currently a stay at home mom), but I'm sure Folsom has a lot of families with young children as well, just that I'm not that well connected over there...also the high home prices in Davis is not conductive for young families like us (when I say "young families, I mean the parents..we're in our early 30s with our oldest in 1st grade...I would say 80% of the parents of my 1st grader are in their late thirties/early forties, i.e. well established financially and can actually afford to live in Davis). Living in Folsom would also cut the commute time/gas at least by 1/2 (according to my husband's co-workers, it takes at least 20 minutes to drive within Folsom as well. Currently his commute time from Davis to Folsom is about 45 minutes). Any advice??

Move to folsom. great schools and you can get more home for your money. We thought of moving to Davis as well but home prices stopped us.

That sounds exactly like our situation. We are currently living in Davis right now and I work in folsom. We chose to buy in folsom for a couple of reasons. I guess the main one is the price. Davis for some reason is way over priced. A good 400k house in folsom is easily if not more than 700k in davis. The commute is also a good idea to move to folsom, specially with gas prices the way they are.

You get to bike around in folsom, but its usually longer distances on the bike trail. Shopping in Folsom is 10 times as better than Davis.

Folsom>Davis for us.

i agree with the other posters on this subject. My only rebuttle is when your kids are adults. If they wanted to go to a local university Davis is 100x better then Sac State.

Davis and Folsom are totally different cultures. I think they are both nice in terms of safety and being child friendly. If you don't know the difference then you probably won't mind moving to Folsom.

Personally, I'd rather live in Davis.

I just feel more comfortable eating expensive sandwiches in my yoga pants when I'm in Davis. Just a personal preference I guess.

And how's that different in Folsom? Just as snobby!

The big difference is politically.

Folsom is more like Orange County. Davis is more like Berkeley.

Both nice places though.

Sac State is underrated, Davis is overrated... I've gone to both.
