Wow, nice for strolling but not for sleeping. I've got 63f in Scripps Ranch right now, going for 56f for the low. I don't recall August nights being so cool in San Diego lately, but we've been getting into the upper 50s nightly, cooler than Sacramento.

I actually just checked today's forecast for Austin, and they're expecting 99f at 8pm tonight. I'll bet this 105f was a "heat index" again, but either way, that's horrible weather over there. But what's even the point of anyone proving that Sacramento isn't as awful as the absolute worst places on the planet? It's like saying Nebraska is more cosmopolitan than Montana.

Also notice that this was a specially selected day (August 8th, several days ago) to make the strongest point. That's where I don't find individual data points very useful, bc they skew from what's typical. Austin's having a terrible heat wave, and Sacramento was having a milder day. Better to compare averages than individual days, bc I've seen, for example, a handful of days over the decades where Santa Rosa was the warmest city in California in mid Winter; it would be misleading to use a day like that to show that winters in Sonoma Valley are warmer than in Palm Springs, bc we know it's not true in general. Single days mean very little, and they're not even needed to show that Sacramento, despite its summer heat, is less oppressive than humid cities farther East. Climate is more meaningful than day to day weather variations.

I see plenty of upper 90s and low 100s in Sacramento for the days ahead, and let's face it: that's hot. But when compared to Death Valley, boy it feels nice! :-D

But Austin is cheap and another part of the country not the west coast.

Supposed to be blazing over 100 most of this week!

Sac never struck me as great weather, but I’ll caveat saying that I grew up in the Bay Area. I colleged in Chico, which felt like the South, at least when I first moved here.

Thinking back, Sac probably would be a nice change from today’s 102* high, though I don’t know how high the relative humidity was (it’s always high here).
