Yes, how dreadful it would be if we were able to properly fund police, fire and parks!

If I made my decision on where to live based on a temporary half cent sales tax, I'd think about going in to a new profession. Heck, I get 2% cash back from my credit card every month (and I get to use for non-taxable items!). Not sure if what I'm voting on Measure U (a little peeved the city and unions)= haven't done more to bring down costs), but that's a philosophical choice, not a guide for life decisions.

Narrowing your search down to price and square footage needs is a good starting point.

Some parts of Rancho meet the OP's requirements. There are newer areas in Rancho that have low crime, access to good schools, and affordable new and newer home construction.

If the poster wanted the best area money can buy or included specific info on what the housing budget is (which we dont know from the OP) then that list could be quite different.

I plan on voting against probably most if not all the propositions on the ballot. Lots of bad ideas, we don't need to give ANYONE more tax money. Learn to do more with less, and elminate about 95% of welfare. And abolishing the death penalty is a really - REALLY - dumb idea.

Theres one surprisingly desirable part off Stockton.. I think its 14th St but not positive but its the turn you take where Churches is.. if you keep going, seems like a poor mans East Sacramento, but pretty quiet, not as much traffic. I think it might be a better place to live than Carmichael even. Theres some burger place that has chocolate shakes, a liquor store and stuff like that.

There are a couple of nice neighborhoods east of Stockton Boulevard--Elmhurst around T Street, Colonial Heights and Colonial Acres between 14th-21st, and Tahoe Park just east of all of the above. My foodie friends constantly rave about the excellent Mexican and Vietnamese food along Stockton Boulevard in this part of town.

Not sure where you're getting all this "Mexico wants it back" silliness.
