Here are some things to check out. First I have heard good things about the Ralph Richardson Center. You can read some of the reviews here.

Parent Reviews of Ralph Richardson Center - Carmichael, California - CA

and more about the school here.

Sac State also offers Austism Center of Excellence here.

You may also find the resources of Alta California Resource Center helpful.

You might also find the UC Davis Mind Institute programs useful. Specifically they have a list of Austism Spectrum Support Groups. These support groups are really useful to get feedback on how the various programs in different school districts compare and to figure out which one might be best for you child.

They also provide links to other resources here.

and specifically to education resources here.

Lastly you might also want to check out what resources are available from the Warmline Family Resource Center

Google: FEAT, Sacramento, CA (Families for Early Autsim Treatment)
"Best" location depends on child's abilities/needs.
Our daughter has had good services in the San Juan District for 3rd/4th grade inclusion program

Great information, shelato. Do you have to live in the district to enroll in the Richardson Center?

I'm considering a job at Sutter Memorial and would be relocating from Minnesota. I looked at Sacramento because I've seen so much literature from the MIND Institute. I was curious about the experience of families with ASD kids in Sacramento - is there a high concentration of good providers there as a product of the MIND Institute? I also thought my 4 yo could possibly benefit from being close to a research center in case there are opportunities to participate in therapeutic studies.

I don't know the answer to this question, specifically, but I would recommend joining an online sac area autism meetup group in Meetup and asking those parents, the experts, before you move good luck!
