That is more of a mixed area. Alot has changed there since Kodak has downsized. If I were to guess, the area will continue to decline because of Kodak. I have done some work with a company over on Dewey, it is probably ok during the day, I wouldn't walk around there at 12 am though.
I need to know about the area near emerson ave my aunt recently moved there and have not heard good things ,never been to rochester
I wouldn't live there, but I don't know what your aunt is used to or her situation. I have family in that area mostly because that is the best they can afford to live in.
Emerson west of Curlew is not a bad area, per se, but it's been on a slide for several years, now. It was mostly single-family, owner-occupied, around Glenwood (where it's called the Glenwood Neighborhood), and still had lots of young families going back 10 years. Now, a lot of the properties are turning into rentals, and there's been a slight up-tick in crime. That area backs up to the old canal bed.
There were several machine shops in the area, although a few closed in recent years (I heard it through the grapevine the vacant screw machine shop recently burned). A lot of the older generations worked at Kodak and Rochester Products (GM).
It used to be quiet around Glide, and west of Glide, between Emerson and Lyell, but I don't know what it's like, now. East of there is generally considered a bad area (Michigan St. comes to mind).
