Driving from Buffalo to Rochester to teach a class and need to kill about 5 hours. Can someone suggest a good indie coffee shop with free wifi I can sit and drink coffee for a couple of hours?
Also, I'm coming from North Carolina and wanted a restaurant to try. Is there any "famous" or noteworthy restaurant in town that I should try. It'll just be me and I'd like to keep it under $20 is possible.
coffee- spot coffee on park ave. javas on gibbs
food- dinosaur bbq. though since you are from NC bbq may not be the best choice. There is nick tahoes which serves the famous "garbage plate". the garbage plate is a signature food around here. You can go to Bill Grays, Tom Wahls or Schallers for a burger or a white hot dog. All depends on where you are going to be.
A white hot is made a little diferently. Its unsmoked and contains different spices giving it a different taste. You can get them at most local burger joints.
You can sit in Spin Cafe on Park near Berkley all day and use their free wifi. There are also a load of great inexpensive places to eat around there including Jines and Charlie's Frog Pond-good diner-style food), Camille's-good soup and sandwiches, and Nathan's good soup and salads. Afterwards, you have your choice of two ice cream places for dessert-Abbotts or Roman Holiday Gelato. Abbotts is open now, but Roman Holiday doesn't reopen until the 17th. Or you could get a pastry at the Baker Street Bakery. Best of all you're only a couple blocks away from 490 when you're ready to get back on the road.
I can also recommend Spin coffee. There is one in High Falls and one on Park ave, probably others.
