Hi all: I've read most of the past threads but they don't address my unique needs so thought I'd start my own thread.

I will most likely be moving to Rochester for a position in Fairport (I should find out Tuesday). I need to rent a house for a year or so. I'd prefer a single family home. I'd like to stay at $1,000 month or less if possible but can go up to $1200 for the right house.

I've tried searching local real estate and Craigs List but all the homes seem to be preforeclosures and I do not want that.

Here's more about me and what I'm looking for - I'm hopeful someone can give me some tips about where to look

*I do not want to live in the city
*I want to be within a 30 min commute of work
*I have 3 little dogs so need someone who will let me have that many (all house trained, don't chew - they really just sleep (typical shih tzus)
*I'm a homebody - don't care about bars or nightlife
*I'll be living alone until my significant other moves to NY when our house in PA sells so I want a very safe neighborhood
*I have a horse so would like an area near horse boarding facilities if possible
*I don't have any kids so I don't have to worry about schools

Thanks for any insight you can provide! I really appreciate any help

The only issue you might have is the dogs.... East Rochester would be the fastest and easiest place to find a rental property in close proximity to Fairport- especially in your price range. There are MANY there. And it is RIGHT next to Fairport- you would have a very short 5-10 min commute time. Good luck.

Thanks so much. I saw a lot of rentals in East Rochester but wasn't sure if that was the "city" or suburbs and if that area was safe.

Thanks again! I really appreciate it!

I would suggest East Brighton. The streets off of Indian Landing Rd. (e.g. Kimbark, Dorking, Audley, etc) include a lot of small single family homes (2 bedrooms) that should rent in your price range. I understand many of these homes appeal as rentals to single women with kids who take advantage of the excellent Penfield school district elementary school at Indian Landing. It is a very safe area. The neighborhood has sidewalks and Ellison Park is right there.

No offense to anyone but East Rochester is in a lot of ways a blue collar island in a white collar sea (Pittsford, Brighton, Penfield, Perinton). There's a lot of nice areas in ER but not all parts of ER are all that nice. I would check the specific street out first in person before renting there.

East Rochester is a village...it's not really a suburb, but it's definitley not part of the city. It's a small, dense, older village, surrounded by larger, newer, more sprawling suburbs. It's very safe, but has very high taxes (though also has very low home prices.

I'm pretty sure I got the job! Should get an offer today!

I found 2 homes that would accept my dogs - 1 in Rush and 1 in Macedon.

Any comments about either area?

I would shoot for Macedon.... having lived in Fairport for the majority of my life and Macedon part of it.... Macedon is about 10 minutes from Faiport, not too far from the expressway, close to Eastview Mall, not too far from everything else.... it is JUST over the county line... so you aren't missing out on the ammenitites that are in Monroe County.... things are a TAD different over the county line (I am NOT going to lie) but if you can deal with the "country life" (which you will have in RUSH too) then you will be fine and MUCH closer to work.... I say go to Macedon. You are so close to Fairport in Macedon....
