I lived in Rochester for 2 years, when I first lived there everyone told me to stay away from the 19th ward because of how horrible it was. I lived in the South Wedge for about 6 months where my car was hit at least 5 times and my house was broken into on Christmas morning ( luckily we were out of town). After that we moved to the 19th ward in between Genesee Park Blvd and Thurston. All our neighbors we're awesome and we never had one problem in the year and half we lived there. At one point we even went on vacation for a week and forgot to lock our doors and luckily no one had broken in! Parts are worse than others but I thought our neighborhood was great. The only reason we left was to move to a bigger city. IMO from living in a bunch of different cities it seems the more "diverse" areas seem to get labeled as bad ones by white people living in the suburbs who are afraid of diversity. From my experience the only bad parts of roc are the north and by plymouth exchange.

It is interesting, as there are areas of the 19th ward that have a high minority percentage, but a low poverty rate. So, it does seem like it depends upon where you are in the 19th Ward.
