I know this may seem a little silly, but I was wondering about gardens and lawns in Rochester. I have lived in one of the most arid places in North America, where if you didn't water the lawn during the hot summer months, it died. HERE, in southern PA the lawn flourishes at all times... definitely no sprinklers needed. Plants of the hardier type almost never need watering, and roses and more "difficult" plants thrive.
How is lawn and garden maintenance in upper NY state? Near the lake I would expect it to be quite green and humid... but I really don't know. Do more exotic plants do well? Is constant attention necessary?
I am hoping to avoid manual sprinklers... I would have to consider looking for in-ground sprinklers if watering the grass is necessary - plus I was hoping for a nice mature lot with lots of plants when we buy... but not if it is going to be a full-time job looking after them!!
tell me what you know!!
