I am starting my graduate school at RIT this (2007) winter quarter. I am planing to move to Rochester sometime during next month. I am currently living in Brownsville, Texas. I just finish my undergrad studies at The University of Texas at Brownsville. These days I am trying to look for a nice house to rent from there, I have my family moving with me, My wife and my son who is 9 years old. our primary concern is, rent a house where our son can attend to a good school. I don't have any clue about any school districts at Rochester . can somebody help me to find a nice house within a good school district while it close to RIT !

Thank you
Prabath

Brighton would be your best option. It has some of the best schools in the state (also top 100 in the nation) and it is right next to RIT....finding a house to rent will be a little harder because most of the houses in Brighton (as well as the rest of suburban Rochester) are owner-occupied.

Hay, thank you for the tip. I have looked in that aria and couldn't find anything yet, your right, its hard to find a place in Brighton, but I will keep looking ! Meanwhile I found hidden creek apartments located at Charwood Circle, (Hidden Creek). My wife really like the apartments that are listed on the site, and they look decent and affordable. do you have any comments about this aria.

And also I have this question in general. Is it worth to have an apartment with a garage or a basement ? I don't think I can find an apartment with both basement and a garage for affordable price. So we have to settle with either one and I am trying to figure it out which one is the best option especially during the heavy winter time.

I greatly appreciate your help !

Check out craig's list for Rochester....tons of places on there. Also, there is a website that rates apts in the area......can't think of it right now, but it is easy to find doing a search.
The southeast section of Rochester is nicer.

you dont have to be in an apartment complex, here in wny there are a lot of two family homes, specifically duplexes that would give you a 1/2 private basement along with possibly a garage - a garage really is nice, its nice to wake up and not have to brush off your car with snow - the basement is iffy, do you need it? probably not, although many apt buildings will have storage spaces available - good luck
