Here's my opinion (as an ethnically Chinese individual who has lived in Taipei and the San Francisco Bay Area):

Southern Chinese: Full Kee (it has a history of inconsistency, but has been pretty good lately)

Northern Chinese: China Star (their American-style Chinese is awful, but authentic stuff is great!)

Taiwanese: Mama Wok (especially their Taiwanese-style foods)

Buffet: Super King Buffet

American-style Chinese: Fujian, Great Taste

I'd go with Chen's, China Star and Nanking. Surprised nobody even mentioned Nanking.

I have to jump on this topic. Best Chinese food imho is Chens, hands down.

I've only had Chinese from 3 places in Richmond.

The 2 places on W. Grace Street near VCU (600 and 900 blocks, I think) and a place called Fu Jian.
The places on Grace Street aren't bad, but they're very average at best. The actual restaurants were kinda dirty when I went in (900 block location had flies everywhere [the door was open], 600 block had a leaking roof right in the middle of the dining area..and heavily stained carpet)

Fu Jian was great...I don't know what it was about them but it was just really good food. I've never stepped foot in their brick-and-mortar location, only ordered sight-unseen, so I can't comment on their store cleanliness or service...but their delivery is very fast.

Its actually pretty freaky how fast they deliver. I ordered from Downtown on Broad Street and they were there in literally like 10 minutes. I figured they must have given me food that was already prepared but it just tasted much too "fresh" and the order was too complex (it was actually 5 different orders) for them to have had all of the food conveniently waiting

Our family of four was in the Ashland/Richmond area just last week, and, due to the positive comments regarding Chen's, in Short Pump, we decided to make the trip over there for lunch.

It was absolutely the best Chinese we have had since moving from Boston to the Raleigh area 5 years ago. Our waiter was "Jack", a Chinese feller with a madcap sense of humor.

We took the leftovers home to NC and feasted on them on Sunday. You are fortunate to have Chen's in your area. It was truly enjoyable.

Humm...Super King Buffett......loaded with Asian customers thats for sure.......For me, I thought is was only fair. Most of the items had no labels, indicating what the dishes were, and there were no soup bowls to be found, hence, I couldnt try the soup. Eeek, once was enough for me! So not impressed!
