My partner and our two kids are moving to Richmond, Va. Would like suggestions on areas to live in Richmond, Va with two kids in middle school. A realtor recommended Short Pump and West End. We don't know anything about Richmond, Va. The climate towards gay families etc. Any feedback would be great.

I forget the name but there's a private elementary school in the Fan where a lot of same sex couples send their children. There's also a very accepting church but I forget the name's of both of them. If you can afford private school then I recommend the Fan in downtown Richmond, if not then Short Pump / Glen Allen

Short pump/west end is white elitist, traditionalist. The fan is going to have the most alternative lifestyle acceptance.

Far from. Most of the Short Pump area is Northern Transplants who are very used to seeing gay couples and could care less. Plus, Henrico has MUCH better schools than the city.

Henrico has better schools, but most gay couples live in the city. So.... You can get good schools in gayborhoods till middle school, then it's an issue.

Richmond, in my experience as a straight urbanite, is gay friendly. No idea about the suburbs, but I don't think western henrico would be an issue

I think you will be comfortable and accepted in most neighborhoods- especially north of the river

Stay near the West End. Short Pump if you can afford it, Deep Run, Godwin, and Freeman are all pretty good schooling areas. The city may be more open towards gay families, but most of the city schools just are not worth putting your kids into. Dangerous, low scoring on standardized tests and the SAT, etc.
