Just saw your other post -- anywhere that your husband is doing a reverse commute will be fine, especially if, like us, you're used to 2-3 hour commutes! So you might look at the near West End, or Bellevue.

This ^^

However, you'll have to look for older homes there. Many of them are circa 1960s or later. Bon Air is a nice enough area, but if you're really looking for charm and community, Westhampton or Fan/Museum (Maybe even North of 64/95 in Bellvue. However with Fan and Bellvue, Private School is where most of the people send their kids. I've no idea what tuition runs at private schools, but the Fan/Museum district is pretty decently priced and has a lot of conveniences close by, very walkable community. I know right outside of my door in the Museum District is a private elementary/middle school, and the a Catholic girls school and a separate boys high school, all within 3 blocks. Very safe and nice neighborhood.

Please stop suggesting Bellevue. We're hoping to find a house there and don't want any more competition!

I wouldn't have any problem sending kids to Fox in the Fan or Linwood Holton in Bellevue/Ginter Park.

Or Mary Munford in the West End. Problem is middle school....

Bellevue is a really cute neighborhood. I'm surprised more people don't know of it. Probably the best Wine store in the Richmond area too. And 5 minute drive to Fan/Museum. Only issue is most houses are cottages - cute but small.

Default Thanks

Thanks for all the good info. I think we may have to sacrifice our hope to have a really old home. One of the reasons we left LA was to avoid private schools. Maybe when the kids are out of school we will sell the house in the burbs and get one of the fabulous old homes I keep looking at!
