Two people were shot at approximately 3:00 am at the intersection of Elmwood Ave and Potters Ave in South Providence (Elmwood neighborhood). One died. This is the first homicide of 2022 in Providence.
Yes. And this murder also happened very close to the ELMWOOD HISTORIC DISTRICTS.
That's a very problematic part of the city. Remember last April, there was the murder on Atlantic Ave. that was followed a day later by another shooting on the same block. And of course, that was not long after a murder on Lenox Ave. which is also in the southern portion of the Elmwood Historic District (your map is slightly off redplum, as I Man has informed us in the past).

From what I could comprehend, it happened at either 200 or 208 Atlantic Ave. which is within the Elmwood Historic District. No weapon has been recovered yet, although police say they have some leads. An individual was heard asking "that's a rough neighborhood, wasn't there another murder like a block away 4 months ago?". I assume they were referring to the one on Lenox Ave. in December, but there was also that more recent shooting at the Montecristo restaurant on Elmwood Ave.
This would be the 4th homicide of the year for the city.

"Pastor John Owens of Truth Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church works and lives in the area. He said crime seems constant in the south side of Providence.
"You know, I hear gun shots in this neighborhood often," he said.
He wants the people of Providence to start caring.
"Nothing shocks people anymore," he said. "They just go about their day like, "Oh some kid got killed? Oh OK."""
“We hear gunshots frequently in the area. There’s a lot of prostitution, and drugs, and homelessness,” he explained. He said just a few years ago, a stray bullet went right through the church windows.
“I’m not surprised when carjackings take place and they arrest the guy in our church parking lot.”
"The man shot and killed in Providence over the weekend — Biniam Tsegai, age 35, of Portland, Maine — had reported ties to the Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev."
Rough few days on Parkis Ave. (Elmwood neihborhood). Some recent activity...
"49 PARKIS AVE 2022 Jan 09 01:38:00 AM 1 2022 Assault, Aggravated ASSAULT W/DEADLY WEAPON IN A DWELLING
9 PARKIS AVE 2022 Jan 07 10:01:00 AM 1 2022 Assault, Aggravated 11-5-2 FELONY ASSAULT/ DANG. WEAPON OR SUBSTANCE"
That is also of course very close to the Shell on Elmwood Ave. where the woman was recently shot in the head. And of course, fairly close to Long Live Beerworks as well.

"Police say a man who was shot in Pawtucket Friday afternoon is now facing multiple drug charges after police executed a search warrant at his home.
Albertini Andrade Moreira, 23, of Pawtucket, was charged with manufacturing Fentanyl, Amphetamine, and cocaine with intent to deliver less than 24 hours after being shot.
Moreira was also charged with obstruction of an officer during the execution of their duty, according to police.
Police say Moreira was targeted in Friday's shooting but so far the suspect has not been arrested.
Moreira remains in police custody with non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital and will be arraigned by a bail commissioner on Saturday, police said.
Pawtucket Police are still investigating Friday's shooting."
