This a really well designed public space. I haven't spent any time there during the day so I don't know how and how well it's used. Anyone care to say? There's a great deal of integrity to this public area and the workmanship is high quality.

I've noticed that quality materials are typically used downtown. The wrought iron work in Waterplace Park is very rich and detailed -- not cheap stuff. Good street furniture, too, and lots of details hidden in plain sight.
I do like this plaza. Much of the marble is good, too. The marble benches and planters, the intricate paving, and the bold yet subtle lighted sculptures, they all extend a "welcome." Very friendly entrance. That they have lights at the crown just makes this such a fun modern structure.

Those are pictures of One Financial Place or the Hospital Trust Tower. The green fountain was designed by Howard Ben Tre. Think it was built 1998 or thereabouts. The building to the right of it now used by RISD as its library was the RI Hospital Trust Bank. A gorgeous building that I remember well. The elevator doors rival the Chrysler Building's. It used to have a wall sized hand painted mural of a panoramic East Side I believe.

The mounted sculpture on the wall -- is that original to the 1970-1973 construction? I think it's just a real gem. And it contains all the flora and fauna that I require in my life. To walk through the plantings is all the interaction with nature I need for months and months. That building is nearly 45 years old and it is still fresh and relevant.
I'm going to spend a lot of time night shooting in the Financial District as there's some great architecture. The Turks Head, sure, but the Amica building? Now that's a real treat.
Pretty sure those wall sculptures are from the Howard Be Tre installation. The tower was quite plain when built. Just occurred to me these echo the Waterfire torches which began in 1994. Guess it took that long to sink in --- ha ha
