Not even sure if it’s possible for an American to retire there.
But the weather and island life looks fabulous — not too hot in summer and in 70 s much of winter.
Lots of culture and history, gorgeous beaches.
I know it’s expensive, and we are fine with that.
Just curious if it’s possible, and if anyone has had experience there.
Bermuda is never talked about on forums.
Thanks

I found a good expat link on living in Bermuda if anyone is interested, but am still curious if anyone here has experience there.

As I recall, Mayor Bloomberg maintained a residence in Bermuda -- he used to fly down there on weekends. True Billionaires can do that sort of thing, or so I'm told.

DW and I honeymooned on this beautiful Island back in the 80's. It was spectacular.

I went on a Bermuda cruise. It was a few years ago. Beautiful.

I seem to remember being told that people can't live there (but of course if you have enough money..... like Oprah and Bloomberg) can.

My husband was born in Bermuda and his mom was American and his dad was from the UK. My SIL and husband as well as her younger son and family still live in Bermuda. You can't just move to Bermuda as an American. I would be able to live there since my husband is Bermudian, but I couldn't work there unless I got a work permit.

It is an incredibly beautiful place and we visit often, but it is very small at only 21 square miles with a population just over 60K. Many Bermudians that we know also have homes elsewhere or do a lot of traveling.

Seems like Mathjak vacationed there and mentioned it was really expensive, but he'll hopefully confirm that.

You cannot move there. Oprah even tried, and they turned her down. Sorry.

Hello mountainrose, I am Bermudian and I live in Bermuda.
Lovely to hear nice things about my island home

I have to say not many foreigners retire to Bermuda and unfortunately many Bermudians retire abroad because as others have mentioned it is too expensive.

However, I *think* you could. There have been Americans who have lived here - those you would have heard of are Ross Perot, Robert Stigwood - also Michael Douglas and Catherine Z-J (athough Michael D has Bermudian ties), I did go to their house for a dinner party once - our friend worked for him at the time. Michael D, wasn't there though.
It's a pretty small island!
