Interior "theater dimming " is great! Lights that simply shut off after 15 seconds are certainly useful, but nowhere near as classy - kinda like Bud Lite vs. Heineken.
The ONLY Mercury I remember us owning was in the late 80s... my dad owned a 1977 Mercury Bobcat Villager wagon... this was Mercurys version of the Ford Pinto for those that dont know. Fairly rare cars... it was a green wagon with the woodgrain. It was actually a good car. I do remember my parents almost purchasing a 1985 Mercury Cougar in 1991, but ended up buying a 1985 Buick Regal instead.
Our little Mercury wagon looked like this car in the ad below, except it was dark green and it also had the woodgrain!

My '95 Lincoln Town Car has those (theater dimming lights). It is a very nice touch.
I have a 1973 Mercury Cougar with a 351C. It is Metallic Blue with White and Blue interior and a White Vinyl Top. My favorite thing about the car is the Sequential taillights which still work
