I always liked later EFI 5.0 85-86 capri they had a mean looking front end and hood over the early mustang GTs. there was one for sale when I was 16-17 for $1200 but insurance would of killed me in high school so I could not get it back then it was in good condition though.

The last photo you posted is my sister's car but with rims instead of wire hubcaps. It also had the roll privacy shade that attached from behind the back seat to the hatch back to hide what you may have stored in the back. Worked like a roll down shade including addjusting the spring tension. My cousin had a similiar model but with the v6. He'd been trying to save money to get the 5.0 but gave up when he and his wife had a baby. Then it was time for a change. He had added Crager rims and babied that car to keep it shiny.

Here's a good pic of an '80 I found...
I still think these look better than the fox body Mustangs...
I took Drivers Ed in a brand new red 1967 Mercury Cougar. We also had to learn standard shift, and used new Mercury Comets with three on the tree. I never wanted or owned a Mercury, but I thought we took Drivers Ed in some pretty nice cars!

I bought a 87 grand marque that was several years old with only about 35k on it. It was special ordered by a guy that worked at ford. Had every option. I went out the next day and bought the country hit "riddin in my mercury" by alan jackson and it made it even more fun
Hmmm well the only real personal memory is with my uncle's 78 Mercury Marquis Brougham I sold a few months ago. Besides being green I liked the car. I've yet to have my own Mercury(although I've got some prospects now on a 50 coupe and 67 Park Lane), I have owned various Continentals and a Thunderbird. I've been in many a Town Car too.
I'd love to have a Cyclone, early Cougar, 50s convertible, etc. I think a cool custom Mercury would be an 83 LN7 with a frame swap to something RWD and drive train switched to a 289/4spd or 302/5spd. With some mods to the LN7s and Exps, you can basically have a 2 seater Capri/Mustang.
I had two Mercuries -- a 1971 Montego (my first car) and a 1982 Lynx.
Neither were good cars from a repair and performance perspective. But I had some good times with them, especially the Montego, which I got when I first started driving.
I once fit 9 people (including myself) in the Montego. 5 in the back seat and 4 in the front. Thank God for bench seats in the front! Of course, that was back in high school. A bunch of my friends and I had gotten in trouble in school on day and had to stay after for detention. Except for me, the rest of them were still taking the bus, but of course the bus was long gone by the time we were cut loose from detention, so they all descended on my car for a ride home. It was winter, crappy weather, nearly getting dark, etc. How could I say no? So I piled them all in. It was probably pretty stupid, but it was funny. Those were the days, when you didn't worry about seatbelts, laws against too many teenagers in a car, etc.
my folks test drove a Mercury Monterey(or maybe a Marauder or similar Merc), i think my dad said they took it home and it wouldn't fit in the garage, so they got a Galaxie 500 instead
First car was a blue '99 Mercury Cougar that I got when I was 16.
So slow, 110hp with an automatic transmission...but I loved it regardless of the horrible performance Drove it everywhere...many fun times in that car
