If applying for a rental, are landlords mainly interested in the credit score, without much concern about one's checking account?

Obviously, I don't want them to see a recent bounced check. Do they normally ask for a bank statement and savings account statement at all?

Credit score. Frankly it would be a cold day in Hades that a LL or pretty much anybody else would be shown my bank statements!

I think if a LL, and I am one, asked for copies of bank statements I would walk away. No LL needs that much information. It's not a mortgage, it's a rental.

Agreed, as a ll, I would never ask for bank statements. However, I have seen many bounced checks show up on credit reports. We are always on the lookout for small dollar figures to stores. Like $57 to Sears. They are usually bounced checks.

The only time I was ever asked for a bank statement was when I didn't currently have a job and was using a chunk of savings to prove I had the money required to qualify to rent the unit. If that's not you, then likely not.

BTW if a person has no rental history or somethings that come up in their background but not really a reason for a denial than we ask for last month's rent to be paid as well...

And we are happy we did, it saved many home owners a lot of money!
