Haven't been in years, but would consider using some ff miles to visit Reno for a Sun thru Friday trip... 19 per night? Or did that never happen. Used to like Sands, Flamingo, Silverado.. and the late, late night cheeseburger special at the Virginian.. Any recs would be appreciated.. A lot more likely to buy weed than tickets to the Jersey Boys..

Silverado? Pretty sure there never has been a Silverado in Reno. Do you maybe mean the Silver Legacy?

You'll pay more than $19 nowadays. I'd recommend going to the higher-end places - Atlantis, Peppermill, Grand Sierra. Nice hotels, and you get what you pay for.

El Dorado... my bad... I glanced at Priceline.. Looks like there is value downtown, like their used to be. Clarion and Peppermill were good, too.. But I think that is more towards the airport.

Clarion is now the Atlantis. Best hotel in town, in my opinion.

There is still a significant homeless issue downtown. If that doesn't bother you, go for it.

What I liked about downtown was you had alternatives a few hundred feet away..seems like the vagrants were gathered near the cheap weekly hotels, which I figured were demolished. If there are aggressive panhandlers near the Flamingo than that would be new(s) to me.

And how is that pesky resort fee? It's bad enough if they do it but I saw no mention of it on priceline. Would hate to get surprised..heck of a nice Jacuzzi on the top floor of the Sands.

The Flamingo no longer exists and hasn't for many years. It's now the Montage condos.

Some of the weekly hotels downtown have been demolished, but not all. And the homeless aren't limited to those areas. Seriously, there are better alternatives to stay in than downtown.

I was a regular in the early 90s..the 19 dollar rooms at Reno Hilton lured me...great, big rooms..got a lot of work done pre internet. But..it seems like it was too far to bar/casino hop. Started getting the same cheap rooms at flamingo, fitzgeralds, sands, comstock and had an absolute blast. As a sports bettor I enjoyed shopping prices on the games..and the machines always seemed looser when there
were great alternatives close by. First time I stayed on the Vegas strip I think I almost got shin splints from walking so far..dont need a bathrobe or a hairdryer or TV in the bathroom...would prefer plentiful food and drinks....what made Nevada famous..

Interesting very timely thread, I was just searching for rooms in the Reno area since I'm flying into the Reno airport for our trip to Lake Tahoe and Yosemite and after the virus caused our flight to be changed to a 6:30 AM from New Orleans (and I live an hour and a half from the airport) we thought about flying the previous night and spending an extra night in Reno or Virginia City.

I didn't find a room cheaper than $206 plus resort fee (and possibly plus parking too), that price being at the Silver Legacy which does look like a cool property. Even Super 8 in Sparks was over $100. We just decided to stick with the early morning flight anyway.

Comparing Reno to other casino resort destinations, these rooms are actually cheaper than Biloxi where the Golden Nugget and Harrah's for the same night would be over $300 now, would have been cheaper in advance though Biloxi is a coastal destination. Being from Gulf Coast, casinos aren't really that special to me anymore.

I remember back in 2011, I was able to get a room for $39 a night at the Stratosphere Las Vegas., the second cheapest hotel stay ever for me, the only cheaper one was a roadside motel in West Virginia.
