But it seems that being a christian one merely has to wear a Jesus t-shirt.
Spiritual maturation takes time. Perhaps, as another poster said, not everyone you believe to be Christian really is.

Yes, Jesus failed in some of his major goals. And yes, his message fell largely on deaf ears. Jesus himself admits these things in the gospels, although most Christians choose to ignore what the gospels say, and only cherry-pick the verses that they want to believe in.

But so what if Jesus failed? People all fail in some of their goals, often through no fault of their own. The successful are frequently disreputable or wrong, the failures are often proved right. Why should the fact that people were foolish enough to reject Jesus make him any less admirable?

This has nothing to do with admiring Jesus or not.
Those who ignore the teachings of Jesus do so intentionally. Therefore, they are impostors, not christians, and have placed their own ideas above those of Jesus.

Aw now I disagree!
Jesus may have been an amazing teacher. Just not all his students were listening. It happens all the time: My maths teacher was fantastic and, at the time, I was very good. Now, ask me about maths and I'm a dimwit sitting there for half an hour trying to count!
At the time, Jesus' pupils, the very early Christians, were the best around. Now, through mistranslations, misunderstandings, ego and secrecy the ultimate teachings may have become a little lost.

I've read it numerous times. Christ taught his followers to:

Be Meek
Turn The Other Cheek
Walk The Extra Mile
Love Thy Neighbor
Do Unto Others As You Would Like Them To Do Unto You
If Sued In Court For Coat...Voluntarily Give Cloak Also
Love Thy Enemies
Pray For Those Who Curse And Despise You
And If One Would Be Perfect...Sell What You Have And Give It To The Poor

Add To This The Tithing Of One's Earnings And I Have A Question

Have You Ever Met One? Have You Ever Even Seen One?

Ha! Yes, I see your point. I'm arguing against Jesus being the one who gets the blame.
Besides, we could ask the same about any other religion/belief system. How many followers can we genuinely call true followers?

The teachings have not 'become a little lost' - they are recorded in the New Testament.
That is just a cop out to ignore the teachings of Jesus.

Also, to pray in your closet.
