Default What's the buzz, tell me what's a happenin' ?

I was in high school (a CATHOLIC, all girls prep school) when Superstar first came out. It was a HUGE deal, culturally, at the time. The criticism seemed to stem from the fact that 1) heaven forbid anyone should actually turn the last days of Jesus into a rock concert, 2) In the Broadway play, at the very end, Jesus rises out of the stage in a silver gown that alledgedly cost a million bucks, and 3) The entire play seemed to highlight Jesus' humanity, (or at least implied or raised the question thereof) and the ending did not imply resurrection. (Unlike Godspell, where the resurrection was fairly implicit.)

Since the "all-girls-Catholic-prep-school" was VERY progressive, I remember we all listened to, and debated Superstar in Religion class. We also went to see the show on Broadway. Believe me, there were parents who would not let their kids go; it was considered just that blasphamous at the time...

Didn't care as much for the movie, although here is my take on the ending where they all get on the bus: That it left the ending rather open ended, as it seemed to imply the question of responsibility, in the present, what had taken place, and that those questions are still relevent and timeless.

...But the music, ah, it was brilliant!!!

I like your take on the ending. The bus scene worked for me!! And I think we all agree, the music is truly awesome!
