(something like that) heard the preacher say that in the garden of Eden, Eve was told not to eat fruit from the tree of knowledge (I believe) and the preacher said she should have just stayed away from that tree. If she had, she never would have encountered the serpant to tell her she should in fact eat the fruit. What do you guys think? Is this sound thinking? I think it is, you should not knowingly put yourself near temptation. Just curious.
Not knowingly put yourself near temptation? Huh?
So tell me, who put the tree there, and let the snake run free in the garden in the first place?
If I left two five year olds alone for the day, and on the way out told them "oh by the way, don't mess with the loaded gun on the table" who's putting who near temptation? Who's the responsible party if something goes amiss?

My confusion has always been that God gave Adam and Eve the Tree of Knowledge, yes?
Now, if Adam and Eve were born 'pure' (as in, Eve had to eat from the tree to gain awareness of 'good' and 'evil'), then *before* she ate from it, she wouldn't *know* she was doing something bad.
Likewise, the Serpent's words wouldn't have made any sense -- 'good' and 'bad' are both conceptual terms, so without any awareness of the concept, the Serpent's words wouldn't have made any sense, until *after* she'd already eaten from the Tree.
So, in effect, did God punish Adam and Eve for learning?
