What if life is controlled by the laws of nature, meaning everything physical in the universe, but life here on earth is no more then what it is, physical beings with an array of emotions (that most of us have trouble controlling) and not understanding where they came from, searching for a higher (being or deity) thats not there?

That's pretty much where I'm at, except like Montana, I stopped searching for a higher being when I found out it was a fairy tale.
I believe there is a higher source, as in a source to all things universal i think liife is to intricate for it not to be, but this all personal being that mainstream monothesist believe in is mankinds hope to believe in something higher than their own selfworth.

if it really was
you wouldn't be asking the question
the question comes from the place within you that already knows the answer,
and is just hoping you will follow it home, to its origin, to its source
we all know the place from which we came,
and we all have a yearning to go back
the question emerging to be asked is part of that desire

If this were the case, then "reason" would be irrelevant. If "reason" were irrelevant, then logic would also be irrelevant. There is a reason for things, whether we know the reason or not. If there weren't, then our attempts at logic and reason would be worthless.
Some believe it is all worthless, but very, very few. The majority of people who claim to believe that it is all worthless and that they live their lives with the belief that everything is just happenstance are, in my experience, fooling themselves. Most of those people appreciate the cohesiveness as opposed to the randomness of life, particularly as transmitted through art and beauty.

Very few Americans ascribe to Plato's descripton of knowledge. Rather, American thinking is post-modern, or neo-modern--depending on the American sub-culture. As a result just about anyone reading these posts could only agree with your statment in a metaphorical sense. As a result of that disagrement, they would classify your post as non-sensical.
