If Satan/devil and your god are at odds....and basically counterparts (good vs. evil).......why would satan 'punish' you and 'burn' you in "hell" if you do bad things in life? wouldn't he be patting you on the shoulder instead?

The bible doesn't suggest that Satan will punish or burn anyone. Satan will be cast into hell along with the rest. The good news is that no person who recognizes their sin and trusts Christ will go there.

In my religion, "Satan" is no more than an agent of God and can only do His will.
We also don't "do" eternal punishment. If we do wrong, then it is up to us to repent to both the the person we have wronged and to God, and to make the necessary changes in our lives to turn back to doing right.
While you put "religious people" in your title, your question seems to be targeted towards Christians and Muslims specifically.

Don't you question why God created so many souls only to consign them to hell?
Roughly two thirds of the earth's population in non-Christian.
It seems kind of callous of God to create so many souls when he knows in advance he's sending them to damnation.

Sounds like a god I'd rather not worship.

Reason: Inappropriate reference.

So your god is directly responsible for torturing people for eternity? People he created with foreknowledge of their fate, people he could have forgiven, or simply obliterated if he chose. Instead, eternal torment.
How charming.

That's not how it works. Satan isn't the being sending people to hell. Some of the more.... ummmm.... strident fundamentalists can give you the full run-down on their belief that God sends people to hell.

According to my Bible God will save all mankind (1 Timothy 2:4-6) because Christ gave Himself a ransom for all. Since all have been ransomed all must be saved . . . eventually.

I don't see it directed at us Muslims, either.
Our concept of Hell is a bit different from the Christian one and Shaytan is more in line with the Judaic thought. Although Iblis is often called shaytan, Snaytan is more like a trait than an entity. Any being with free will is capable of being a Shaytan.
Actually we see Christians as being about the only ones capable as achieving eternal Hell. As the Jews are true Monotheists, it does not seem logical they could attain eternal hell. Just my opinion. I am certain some Muslims will disagree with. But I do not see Judaism as omitting the act of Shirk.
