And does that mean the hundreds of millions of people that worship Buddha are committing the mortal sin of idolatry and therefore are going straight to hell come judgement day?
For one, Jesus is depicted as having shameful (according to Paul) long hair, unlike the Buddha.
2. Jesus made whips and chased law-abiding currency exchangers with bitter hate and anger with all intents of battery.
3. Jesus promises eternal indentured servitude in heaven.
4. Jesus threatens with fire.
5. Jesus is King of Demons and has complete authority over them
6. idols are pretend gods/ conduits to gods/ representations of gods on Earth.
Come to think of it... Why IS jesus better than buddha (merely as characters I mean)?
mortal sin of idolatry? since when? No one except long-dead ancient Jews signed any supposed covenant with YHWH of the mountain of the burning bush.
Still, I doubt that the book of Life would have any names according to their non-deeds, poor Buddhists being thrown into one of the countless hells by their own Heavenly Father? Not even the worst of crocodiles would do that to their own children.

Wow lot of misinformation here on Buddha...
But I expect that from religious Moderator cut: edit ...one common theme among them is they always think they know so much about their religious cult and make up stuff on every other religion.
The answer to the OP's questions is dependent on whether the respondant is a Christian, a Buddhist, or neither.
If the respondent is a Christian, the answer is yes, Jesus is better than Buddha, and yes, Buddhists who do not accept Jesus as their savior are in danger of having their immortal souls not go to God's heavenly kingdom (unless the Christian is of the belief that Jesus has saved all souls regardless). If the respondent is a Buddhist, then Jesus would not be better, and the Buddhists soul is not in danger from not accepting Jesus. If a third party, then, well, depends on who the third party is...
It is hard to say. The Jesus Tales always failed to impress me. A lot of peoples love and respect for the character comes from him having made some kind of "sacrifice" on our behalf it seems. But I can find no real sacrifice in the books. All I can see is he led a rather hippy life as a preacher, did well out of that and then got a few days of relatively mild torture before being executed.
The supernatural claims around the character do not help either. Adding them in he is said to have exchanged this insignificant short life which ended in some level of pain for an eternal life of dominion and bliss. Hardly a "sacrifice" by any measure I can think of.
So the question of why he is "better than Buddha" is difficult as is any question as to why he is "better" than _anyone_ at all. If we just rate him by his political activism, moral philosophy or the fact he was tortured for his beliefs there are people who have done, and are doing, those things to much higher degrees.
Theological Christianity aside, I think Jesus may have been a rather impressive figure. He was likely seen, at least by the Romans, as a radical revolutionary during his time. Someone who was insisting on a level of equality of people which ran directly against the class system of society of the day. I think the supernatural things attributed to him muddy his actual actions and ministry a little, since they take the focus off of what he was actually doing. To some degree, this is the result of Paul (but that is niether here nor there in this discussion).
Maybe Jesus' accomplishments during his lifetime are overblown too, but I suspect there must be something there as he is the man a whole religion grew out of, and yet he certainly was not alone in bucking the system.

Buddha was a man that died and stayed dead. Jesus is God. He died, and rose again. He is now alive in Heaven interceding on the behalf of us if we trust in him. Even Buddha could have trusted him if he had wanted to.

Other religions reek of being man created because they revolve around "self". They are about building up pride and self esteem by following rituals and practices. Christianity is the exact opposite. It teaches right off that the bat that our very best actions to please God is still filthy rags. There's nothing in our own self effort we can do to win favor and salvation with God. So we have to die to our self identity and let God take over the steering wheel.
It goes against everything our sin nature wants, and therefore Christianity would be an illogical religion if man invented it.
Jesus was most likely fictitious.
Siddhartha Gautama was most likely a real person.
Whats there to compare.
