The Good News is that he only needs to accept what he knows to be true in his heart...yes...that is GOOD NEWS indeed!

But if he doesn't...combined with all the fear this causes for his friend...say he doesn't. Where is the good news in that?

The good news is that Restoreriver appears to be a Christian and has shared the Lord with his friend. Thats all he can do.

*Sigh* The Good News is that God is bigger than His creation.

Yes we do, but I agree in the total sense of the word. You agree only so far as it doesn't clash with orthodox ideals.

I am sorry for you loss of a dear friend. God's purpose is not always clear to us, so please resist the temptation to judge anything based on what you can perceive. Things are seldom what we can see.

You cannot make anyone a Christian any more than someone can make you a Republican. These are decisions we make for ourselves and others can only provide influence and example for us. Do not think you have failed because you cannot see the internal reaction and know the result of your effort. What you have done to lead him to Christ and the example you have put forth may have already been sufficient, or it may take until the final instant of his life for him to make the decision. As long as there is breath, there is hope.

As far as your hopes of the future, consider this thought. If you are ultimately successful and he has/does accept Christ, then why risk missing him in heaven? If he doesn't, and does condemn himself, he will understand his decision, it's consequences, and how he has affected others in his life. Do you want to add to his burden by rejecting Christ and adding the responsibility of that to his life also? Don't you think that even if he personally did not choose during his life to join Christ he would regret causing your condemnation through his example to you?

Even if you choose to go to hell, as you put it, it would not be a comfort to him, nor a boon to you as you would be unable to enjoy his presence either. There is nothing to gain but more suffering for both of you through a decision to join him in hell.

I would suggest that you continue to be a beacon of light and hope in his life and continue to encourage him with your hope and optimism. Make his last days on earth as happy as possible and pray that your example is sufficient to lead him to Christ.

Best Wishes and my prayers go out to both of you.

Hmm, indeed. God is the one who saves, in His time, and no one else's. God is greater than his creation, and leaves nothing to "chance". Trust in your Creator, RestoreRiver. Your friend will be fine in His hands.

Exactly.

This is one of the reasons I had to let go of religion. But if the OP is really that concerned about it, just know there's no more you can do. You can only tend to your own salvation. You can't live other people's lives for them.
