A family is walking down the street, when they see a Church advertisement on a large billboard with a Cross and Image on the cross. The 8 year old child ask the parents " Daddy, Mommy, who is the Man on that Cross"?

What is the truthful answer they should give to the child?

It would depend too, whether or not it was a picture of the Christ Crucified, or the Cross with the Risen Christ in front of it. Both are used.

I think my Jewish friends would probably say something like "Christians believe it's a man called Jesus." And if the child asked, "who is Jesus" I am sure the answer would be, "we don't know."

Jesus! It's a historical fact. Although others were treated in the same Manner. The depiction was clearly Jesus.

I'm afraid that Jesus is not an historical fact.....unless you know something that the rest of the planet doesn't!!

I don't see how this has to be an arguement. My children see worship places of different faiths and ask. I always explain that X is a symbol of that religion because they believe x,y, and z.

"honey, that is a cross. It is a very important symbol for the Christian faith. Christians believe that Jesus died on that cross for their sins."

Kids should be taught what every faith believes. I grew up in another country where there were so many different faiths represented. I learned about Islam, Hinduism, Animism and Christianity very early on.

I was raised Christian, I am still a Christian. That doesn't mean my children won't know what others believe. It isn't a threat to know.

Sorry Homedog, but I must disagree. The Romans have records of it.

For me.....That is the Lord Jesus Christ, who died for our sins. he did nothing to be on that cross, but loved us so much, that he was willing to die for each and every one of us who believes in HIM.

He died on the cross for you...for me. My children know that, and this is what we believe to be true.
