I think it's less about food being an actual aphrodisiac and more about setting the mood. Despite oysters being high in zinc (a mineral men tend to get low in, so they respond positively to supplementation), there really aren't any foods which are TRUE aphrodisiacs.
Nope, the psychology behind it is what one is going for; otherwise, whatever food was scientifically proved a TRUE aphrodisiac would be common in every household and freakishly expensive.
I had a boyfriend who loved to watch me eat spaghetti or linguine. I could twirl the fork, take delicate bites, do the sucking-in-the-noodle thing, maybe lick a little sauce off the corner of my mouth. Eating strawberries was the other thing. He'd get all hot and bothered.
My husband? No. Sex and food are in two completely different compartments of his brain.

LOL I think I relate to your husband. This thread is making me hungry.

oysters are just the right kind of wet, warm, sloppy, odorous and salty
Since it's Memorial Day weekend is here - usually there is some sort of food related party going on. What foods/drink do you use as an aphrodisiac to attract your mate? Be specific, please.
Dark chocolate coupled with red wine. Grapes work too!
I don't. But I heard a joke that the redneck aphrodisiac is a combination of fried chicken and 15W40. "Mmm, baby, is that you? Or the chicken?"

It really is IMO about appealing to all the senses. The right combination of textures, flavors, visuals and smells along with a good imagination and the right partner, makes for a potentially powerful aphrodisiac.
