I would just say you had poor taste or liked dumb guys.
It's just like guys I used to know who said they loved to date strippers...
Aw....so you're secretly jealous of military guys?
Marines are dumb, according to you....?
Gosh I'd pay to see you say that to an actual Marine's face.

I've met some brilliant officers (I'm actually after working with many in an education setting incredibly impressed by them as a group overall), but re the above, I have no idea what that would prove regarding their intelligence. If a person would hit another person for making such a (stupid) comment, they'd effectively being proving that they were in fact, dumb.

I think you miss my point-- that poster comes off as a wannabe tough guy.
He'd never say that to a Marine IRL...
Marines command respect...
Anonymous internet "tough guys" really don't.

Many do, many don't. I have been generally impressed, though, overall.
If I may make a suggestion, if you are looking to make contact with a military man, skip the on-line dating sites and participate instead in one of the many organizations dedicated to sending cards, letters, gifts, books and sundries to our troops overseas. I would leave the dating angle out of any cards or letters, personally, just make it light and breezy. Perhaps a friendship will develop naturally -- as naturally as it can be when corresponding with a young man in a war zone or hot zone. You may or may not make a love connection but you will make a soldier's day.
I love that idea! I was not aware you could do that. I'm not interested in the love part but having a military pen pal would be more interesting than a random one. Do you know where I can do that?

Contact the USO to write someone serving in the military.
A lot of guys I know "in uniform" will immediately not date/stop seeing anyone who cites that they love that profession, which I think is smart.
Or, in all honesty, they use the women with no intent of a relationship. They have a huge aversion to what they consider "groupies."
