Hi. I saw a house in a great neighborhood-there had been a fire and the people want a new start. According to the realtor, the fire was started from the outside (kids)and a spark went inside and ignited the kitchen, foyer, dining room and bedrooms above. I checked with the local police/arson dept and they confirmed this. The house if up for sale for several hundred thousand less than it could get if it was in good shape. My question is, what kind of engineer should I get to find out the structural/total damage of house before making an offer?? Is there a type of engineer that specializes in this kind of house-fire damaged?? Thanks-Amy
You'll want to have a structural engineer check it out, but you also need to have a fire restoration specialist give you pricing on repairing the smoke and water damage- that alone could run into the 6-figures if the fire was as extensive as it sounds like it was.
