Hi! I am considering getting my real estate license and was wondering how it works when you live in SC but also want to sell in NC? Are you required to take both tests? Any advise and info would be appreciated!
Thanks!

If you want to be licensed in both states you should check with some of the local companies. They'll have agents that work both states and tell you the easiest way to go about it.

I wish it could be a short answer but it is getting complicated. Currently you can get a reciprocal license from North Carolina based on your licensure in South Carolina. You would also have a small fee ($50 I believe) to have access to both areas with your Supra Key plus an additional fee for your new license in NC. You will also have to get a NC business license (about $50 per annum).

So much for the short answer. If you want to list properties in both states, you will have to be a member of both boards (CMLS and PRAR), This is no small expense for a new agent.

Recently NC decided to eliminate a "Real Estate Saleperson" license and is requiring all (new and experienced agents) to qualify as a Real Estate Broker. This again takes more training and dollar investment. If this trend continues, I foresee that all NC licensees (incliuding reciprocal) will have to be licensed as a Real Estate Broker in both states.

Writing this I wish the public who are criticizing the fees we charge would fully understand our cost of doing usiness.
