If you are a Realtor why didn't you go with someone in your office or someone you worked with before?

Because my office is just my mom and I. I've had the brokerage for a little over 3 years, but pretty much only worked on the buy side of transactions. I don't know that many other Realtors yet. Most of the people I've worked with as a buyer's agent, I wouldn't want anywhere near my listing. So, I did what we could; we interviewed agents from the 3 big brokerages around and picked someone based on the interviews/sales presentations. Obviously we picked the wrong one...

Off topic, but it's been 3 years you've been in RE and you don't feel you're good enough to represent yourself yet you're offering your services to the public? Maybe you should just stick to the financial side and turn in your license.

As far as the agent, he does sound crummy. I hope you get a better one next time around.

It isn't as though I don't feel I can market the property myself. It is that I didn't feel that I had enough time to do it between my job and the clients I was working with at the time. I'll admit that I much prefer working with buyers instead of sellers. Marketing a high end property is not something I'm experienced with. I also believe that agents in Chicago have a strong preference for their own brokers' listings and I felt that having the property with a large company would give us more exposure.

I've never felt as though I couldn't handle listing the property myself; however, after having it on the market for a good amount of time without the results we wanted, I started to question if I was doing something majorly wrong and not knowing it. So, we decided to try a short listing agreement and see if anything was different. The experiment has concluded and, as it turns out, there isn't anything magical that I wasn't doing already. Lesson learned. I'll never bother hiring an outside agent again, but I'm glad we did it because, if nothing else, it confirmed what we already thought.

Well, since our Realtor won't talk to us, I can't say for sure what he thinks... but IMO, yes, in confirmed for me that price really is what matters more than anything else. Something I plan to rectify now that I don't have to pay two commissions.

So, our listing was for 90 days on the MLS. Today is day 91 and the listing is still there. How long would you wait before you make an issue of that with the managing broker? I'm thinking that I'll give it until tomorrow...
