Has anyone gone this route? I was accepted into a masters program that is an MBA but focuses specifically in real estate. I'm really excited about it as it goes into development, management, investing etc with the end goal working in property development in Baltimore.
Go for it! When is the last time you heard education would be harmful? The opportunity for great ideas could be a life-changer. At worse, you'll be better informed......it won't replace experience, but it will make you better at what you do. Will it be a guaranty for a position in development? No, but it will get you in the running.
Well to update we finished our first semester at Hopkins. I actually really enjoyed what we have done so far. Even though it is geared toward commercial development, I think it has already immensely helped me interact with investor clients. I wouldn't say it's for everyone since its a very niche degree but I really like it.
3 years later... Working in land acquisition for a national builder. Did about $70M in buys last year around MD and brought in 900+ lots. Started as an analyst and now manage our land deals. The degree definitely opened doors for me. Wouldn't recommend it for everyone but I really enjoyed it.
